Who has Text Neck?

Look around you. How many people do you see texting, using cell phone, working on laptops? Are you reading this from your phone or laptop? How is your neck positioned? How is your posture?

In coffee shops, at tables in restaurants, at red lights in their cars, walking through the mall, in line at the grocery store, and even sitting in my reception area or exam rooms, I see people everywhere with Forward Head Posture (FHP) & Text Neck.

“Text neck” is on the rise. A Kaiser survey found that young people often spend in excess of seven-and-a-half hours a day using some form of mobile media.

Patients often come in to see me with neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, or numbness and tingling into the upper extremity; which likely means they have FHP or “Text Neck”. Many of us have poor posture habits during daily activities.

So what is wrong with spending so much time with our heads
down? Unfortunately, where the head goes, the body will follow. If you have FHP, then you probably have rolled shoulders. With rolled shoulders, a concave chest can follow, and often a pelvic tuck. You might also suffer from low back pain. For every inch of forward head posture, it can increase the weight of the head on the spine by an additional 10 pounds.

Luckily, regular chiropractic care can correct and reverse “text neck.” I will hold you accountable and offer you exercises and techniques to keep your head upright.
