Athlete's Shoulder &
The Straw The Broke The Camel's Back

deltoid-illustrationThe shoulder joint provides movement in all directions, whereas many other joints allow one directional movement like the knee or elbow.  The musculature and range of motion make shoulder injuries more complicated.

There are many sports where athletes are prone to frequent shoulder injuries:
  • Swimming
  • Paddling
  • Golf
  • Baseball
  • Tennis
  • Gym Class
  • Laptop Olympics
These sports place high demand on the shoulder muscles, and also involving repetitive motions.

Shoulder injuries can occur quickly due to traumatic impact or over time with strains and micro-traumas.  Here is a very simplified version of what happens.
Small tears in the muscles from repetitive stress create adhesions and scar tissue.  Overtime the scar tissue and adhesions interfere with the muscle function resulting in loss of flexibility and weakness.

As a result of this cycle, injury can occur during routine exercises; the straw that broke that camel's back.

We offer several treatments for shoulder injuries including:
  • Active Release Technique (ART)
  • Graston Technique
  • Cold Laser Therapy
Do not wait for the straw that breaks the camel's back!
Treat a minor shoulder injury now before it turns into a serious problem.
